The people behind nearly seventy years of trusted advice in Western Australia.
Why we exist, the values we work to, and the team you’ll work with.
Our Why
Byfields exists to help Western Australian businesses, individuals and families make confident financial decisions through practical advice, trusted relationships and a genuine understanding of the people behind the numbers.
For nearly seventy years, we’ve worked alongside farming families, contractors, retailers, professional services, family businesses and growing enterprises across Perth and regional Western Australia. We’ve supported our clients through growth, changing markets, succession planning and the opportunities and challenges that come with every stage of business and life.
We believe great advice goes beyond meeting compliance obligations. It provides clarity, builds confidence and helps our clients achieve their long-term goals.
Many of our client relationships span decades, not just financial years. That’s because we take the time to understand each client’s business, ambitions and the people behind them, building partnerships based on trust, continuity and practical advice.
“We understand the realities behind the numbers because we work alongside the people living them.”
WHAT WE STAND FOR
Community-first
From Perth to regional WA, we’re proudly part of the places where we work, live, raise our families and build our lives.
People-first
Clients, team members and communities come before transactions. Relationships matter here.
Plain-language advice
If advice can’t be explained clearly, it’s probably not good advice. We believe clients should properly understand the decisions they’re making.
Long-term thinking
We help clients think beyond this financial year, balancing tax, profitability, succession and long-term growth together.
Real relationships
We work closely with clients throughout the year, not just at tax time. Many important conversations happen around kitchen tables, workshops, depots and farm offices.
Support and opportunity
We invest heavily in our people. From interns and graduates through to future directors, we focus on creating career pathways, mentorship and an environment where people feel genuinely supported to grow.
Our culture
Byfields has built a culture around approachable people, real teamwork and strong support systems across every office.
Many of our team start their careers here while studying or as graduates, and are trusted with meaningful work and client exposure early on. Directors and senior staff stay approachable and involved, helping younger team members build confidence, technical skills and long-term career pathways.
There’s also a strong understanding that life exists outside of work. Whether someone is balancing university, family, farming commitments or simply needing time to recharge, flexibility and support are part of how we operate day-to-day.
Across all offices, there’s a genuine sense of connection. Teams work closely together, share knowledge openly and support each other through growth, challenges and new opportunities.
Our story
Byfields was founded in regional Western Australia nearly seventy years ago, originally working alongside farming families and small businesses across the Wheatbelt.
Today, we’ve grown to offices across Esperance, Narrogin, Wagin, Merredin, Northam and Perth, while still holding onto the same values the business was built on: hard work, honesty, accountability and strong relationships.
A lot has changed over the decades, industries, legislation, technology and the scale of the businesses we advise, but our approach has stayed consistent. We show up, build long-term relationships and help clients navigate the decisions that shape the future of their business and family.
What to expect when you work with us
Real experience early
Graduates, interns and junior team members work directly with clients, managers and directors much earlier than many expect.
Career progression that’s real
Many of our directors and senior staff started at Byfields as graduates or undergraduates themselves. Long-term careers are genuinely built here.
A supportive environment
Professional development, mentoring and ongoing learning are encouraged at every stage of someone’s career.
Work-life balance matters
We believe good careers should be sustainable long-term. That means supporting people both professionally and personally.
Meaningful work
Our clients are hardworking Perth & Regional businesses and families doing important work across WA. Helping support them gives purpose to what we do.
WHAT IT’S LIKE TO WORK WITH US AS A CLIENT
WE START WITH A CONVERSATION
Usually at your office, farm, workshop or around the kitchen table. We want to understand the business, the people behind it and where you want to head long-term.
WE FOCUS ON THE BIGGER PICTURE
Compliance matters, but good advice goes beyond tax returns. We look at structures, succession, cashflow, growth opportunities, risk and long-term planning together.
WE STAY INVOLVED
Clients work directly with experienced accountants, managers and directors throughout the relationship — not just during busy periods.
WE WORK PROACTIVELY
We believe the best decisions are made before pressure arrives, which is why we focus on year-round planning and regular conversations.
WE WORK ALONGSIDE YOUR OTHER ADVISERS
Lawyers, bankers, brokers and financial advisers all play important roles. We collaborate closely to help clients move forward with clarity and confidence.
Our client commitment
SENIOR INVOLVEMENT
Experienced people stay involved throughout the relationship.
STRAIGHTFORWARD ADVICE
Clear communication, practical guidance and no unnecessary jargon.
YEAR-ROUND SUPPORT
Not just at compliance deadlines or year-end.
ON-SITE UNDERSTANDING
We come to you when it matters because businesses make more sense in context.
TRUST AND CONFIDENTIALITY
The relationships we build with clients are built on discretion, honesty and trust over time.
